Counseling is:
1. A voluntary activity. You decide if you want to return for more sessions.
2. Short-term or intermittent.
3. Consulting confidentially about a
situation, problem, relationship, family issue or habit you want to change.
4. A positive step when you are concerned about what to do.
5. An educational and growth-
oriented experience.
6. A give and take, cooperative venture between your counselor and you.
7. Goal-oriented.
Counseling is not:
1. A gripe session. Venting is OK when you are working toward resolution.
2. A passive process where someone "fixes" you.
3. Someone else taking charge of your life and making decisions for you.

(1) depression, (2) addictive and compulsive behaviors, (3) attention deficits disorders, (3) fears, anxieties and phobias, (4) personality disorders, (5) moral failures, (6) abuse cases, (7) generational curses etc
